By far the #1 myth is that E contains Heroin or Cocaine. This is NOT true. Every time someone gets busted, the pills are tested, and there has never been a single case of an E pill having coke or dope in it. Aside from statistics, it simply isn't logical for E to be cut with coke or heroin. One reason being that both coke and heroin are only marginally effective when taken orally, so it just doesn't make sense to put either substance in E, which is (usually) taken orally. Also, Coke and Heroin are more expensive per gram than MDMA, so it wouldn't be cost-effective to use either substance as a cutting agent in E. If either were used as adulterants, your $20 E pill would suddenly cost somewhere around $60.
This particular myth got started because different E-pills cause different effects. This is because sometimes during the synthesis of MDMA, there are either accidental or deliberate chemical variations created. Just a slight change in the "recipe" can create a variant, which in turn produces a different effect.
What we typically think of as E is MDMA, which typically makes the user experience feelings of empathy and euphoria (body buzz). Usually, MDMA does not cause visuals, and has a shorter duration and cleaner comedown than its counterparts, MDA and MDEA. MDMA, MDA, and MDEA are all psychedelic amphetamines with fairly similar effects.
MDA is one variation of MDMA. It has a significant amphetamine effect but does not carry with it the same emotional stimulation that is found with MDMA. It is this chemical that is often confused for cokey-E, and causes the "E-tarded" feeling, where the user is speedy but irritable. Generally, the effects of MDA last almost twice as long (8-12 hours) than MDMA (4-6 hours). Not every "speedy" E-pill contains MDA, however. Some pills ARE cut with other substances (mainly to drive down costs) like caffeine or ephedrine, which can cause a speedy effect.
Some E-pills may contain MDEA, another variation, and are often confused for having Heroin in them, because the user gets more of a dreamy, nodding-out state that is often associated with Heroin. MDEA lasts a rather shorter time than MDMA (generally 3-5 hours) and often lacks the communicative qualities of MDMA. The Heroin in E myth is also perpetuated by pills that appear to have dark specs or flakes in them. This is not the result of Heroin, but rather an imperfection or impurity in the pressing process.
E-pills may also contain a less common variation, MMDA. This variation causes almost (but extrememly slight!) trippy effects, with the user being in a near-hallucinatory, dream-like state and "in thier own world".
